Who is behind the glACTually thing?
The training team for the glACTually TC are 4 people from Ireland, Germany, Latvia and Greece. We met in 2009 while participating in a year-long Training-for-Trainers programme organised by the European Youth in Action Programme. We found we had common interests in global justice, citizenship, youth empowerment and arts. We wanted to explore how the Youth in Action programme could address these issues, using the exciting methods and principles of non formal learning to empower young people to act with awareness on issues of importance to them. We are:

We knew that many countries in Europe already work on integrating a global dimension to their education systems, in schools, teacher education, youth-work training and so on. We were keen to raise awareness of the potential of the Youth in Action Programme to enhance and support this work. The YiA Programme is based on principles of active citizenship, tolerance, diversity and solidarity. It aims to offer alternative learning and personal development opportunities for young people throughout Europe. The methods of learning developed by trainers and youth workers within the Youth In Action programme represent a powerful alternative to formal education.
After our training ended, we met as a group in Frankfurt in Dec 2009 to talk about what we could do. We decided that we would like to run a training course on the link between education and action. We didn't need to look far for a host organisation as we knew that Mayfield Community Arts Centre would be an inspirational host. In 2010, together with the Arts Centre, we applied to Léargas for funding which was granted in July 2010. During the application process we sent out a call for partners to other European organisations. These partners will each send 2 participants to the training. They come from Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania and Portugal. There will be 6 participants from Ireland.
